Thungela Mine’s Successful implementation of I•WIN.

The Thungela Mine, a leading coal mine located in the heart of South Africa, recognised a need to elevate the skills and knowledge of its employees. Seeking a modern, scalable, and effective solution, they turned to the I•WIN Learning Platform.

Thungela, South Africa’s leading coal exporter, approached I•WIN to partner with them on their transformation and development journey. They wanted to be at the forefront of learning technology, equipping their people with the tools they require to excel in the industry.

The challenge.

Their challenges included delivering content to a wide range of employees. From frontline workers whose first, and often second, language is not English, to managers. Most of the users have basic, or no computer literacy, and do not have wide access to WiFi. The transition from primarily classroom-based learning to a blended- learning approach had to be managed with comprehensive training, and, importantly, had to be secure, and compliant with industry standards.

They also wanted a centralised platform that could accommodate all employees and contractors. A platform that would provide accessible content, track learner engagement and performance, assess according to industry standards, provide reports, and could also serve as a performance and talent management system.

The solution.

I•WIN was the perfect solution. The platform, along with I•WIN’s content development, enables Thungela to modernise and digitise their training, and communication strategy to ensure improvements in:

I•WIN supports Thungela’s blended learning approach by providing online content, but also by centralising their classroom management through a booking, registration and attendence system.
The learning environment is integrated between SAP, Skycom solutions and our Learning Experience Platform (LXP). This customised integration ensures seamless communication to all operations as well as the Human Resources Functionality – including the I•WIN Performance and I•WIN Talent Management systems.

The learner experience is easy to use, clear and concise, written in simple everyday language to ensure comprehension and adoption. Where required I•WIN has provided content translated into local languages.

Data from both eLearning and tablet-based assessments is captured into the LXP database and links to effective customised reporting. I•WIN generates generic reports and customised reports to enable Thungela’s monthly and annual reporting i.e., BBBEE reporting, Learner reporting etc.
